The Bell-Fruit Group has announced that it will not be taking a stand at the ATEI/IGE Show in January.
Group MD John Austin issued the following statement:
"There has been a degree of confusion over the direction in which the Show is heading; the split between ATEI and IGE, the rapid growth of the ICE sector, the breakaway show - have all thrown an uncertain light over the event and its effectiveness. This state of flux has provided us with an opportunity to take a step back this year and review the situation. We have made this decision regarding the 2009 Show; participation in any future events will be given full consideration at the appropriate time."

 More Spanish success for BFG…
The recent Malaga show saw the launch of our new game El Trebol de la Suerte, follow-up to the phenomenally successful Sirenas.
Our Spanish distributors Comatel created a real buzz on their stand, continuing the ‘lucky shamrock’ theme with an Irish band, leprechaun characters, and a constant flow of Guinness!
The game itself is also causing quite a stir, with test figures showing El Trebol’s performance to be even stronger than that of Sirenas, so it looks as though the Spanish success story is set to run and run!

Three Cat C’s and every one a winner…
Any rumours about lack of Cat C product at this year’s ATEI were dispelled on the Bell-Fruit Games stand, where we proudly presented no less than three winning games – the current launch, industry and primary models - all of which have already achieved staggering success.
The latest Deal Or No Deal game, The Dream Factory, lined up alongside another great industry brand Bullseye, in the shape of Bully’s Star Prize, and - proving a machine can have star quality even without a well-known licence - Showtime.

Our Cat C line-up spearheaded a varied portfolio of products for all UK sectors, and a range of export games for European markets, on a brand new stand where the products were as warmly received by our visitors as our visitors were by us!

A Golden Surprise!
To mark the phenomenal landmark of 10,000 sales of the Spanish machine Sirenas, we made a special gold edition, which our Spanish distributors Comatel presented at ATEI to the very first Sirenas customer. BFG first to obtain cat C laboratory approval
BFG are pleased to announce that they have received the first cat C formal compliance report, from a leading Gambling Commission (GC) accredited laboratory, confirming that the “DoND Hall of Fame” complies with the requirements set out in the GC’s Machine Standards for cat C and complex cat D product.
The laboratory concerned, Nederlands Meetinstituut (NMi), stated “after a period of internal training and implementation of new procedures we commenced testing BFG’s machine and we are proud to say that due to focus at both BFG and NMi, and working with dedicated experts in the field, we were able to complete the evaluation in only a few weeks with a positive result! This initial approval in cat C & D in the UK is the basis for a well regulated gaming market and we are proud to take part in that.”
BFG MD John Austin added “this satisfies the GC’s machine testing strategy for cat C & D which requires one game title to be tested within 12-24 months where the manufacturer opts to test and approve in-house. It also provides early confidence for the whole BFG cat C range of game titles, which we will test and approve in-house.”

BFG matches sponsorship...
BFG draughtsman Simon Davis cycled the 950 miles from Land's End to John o' Groats during the summer - with a sprained wrist and braving torrential rain - to raise money for Asthma UK.
Simon's colleagues dug deep to sponsor him to the tune of £1333, which BFG very generously agreed to match.
MD John Austin is pictured presenting the cheque to Simon.

BFG digs in...
Bell-Fruit Games has been doing its bit for the locality in various ways since joining the Nottinghamshire Business in the Community scheme - including refurbishing a playground and renovating a swimming pool – and recently added a bit of landscape gardening to its repertoire!
Milford School already benefits from BFG’s help in the ongoing ‘Right to Read’ project, which involves volunteers from the company visiting the school on a weekly basis to hear children read, and now it is the proud owner of a brand new raised garden area thanks to some hard graft from Bell-Fruit employees.
Director of Manufacturing John Lowton, who co-ordinates BFG’s participation in the scheme, said:
“This kind of initiative provides huge opportunity for businesses to develop healthy relationships within the local community; getting involved and seeing the fruits of our labours is extremely rewarding.”
John is pictured getting stuck in alongside colleagues Andino Moore, Paresh Solanki and Simon Davis.

Preparations underway for new regulations...
BFG are busy preparing for the introduction of the new section 240 regulations and Gambling Commission (GC) technical standards. These are required as part of the 2005 Gambling Act and must be implemented in the UK by 1st September this year.
Existing BFG category B4, C and D machines can qualify for “legacy” status providing they are fitted with the appropriate legacy sticker, and are registered with the GC. The sticker, which identifies the machine category, is available from the trade association BACTA.
New games currently on test from BFG comply with the GC standards, providing continuity post 31st August without the need for retest or to become legacy. Other requirements of the new regulations and standards will be incorporated into all new BFG UK product by the 1st September deadline.
We are also working with BACTA and the GC to introduce an agreed procedure for machine testing and compliance.
Further information on the new regulations can be found on the GC and DCMS websites:

Nova's petition for leave to appeal refused by House of Lords
Further to the press release issued by Bell-Fruit Games in April, the House of Lords made known its decision by way of report from the Appeal Commission on June 11 2007, that Nova’s leave to appeal should be refused. Bell-Fruit Games MD John Austin said “This finally concludes the issue in our favour, and I am very glad to put the matter behind us”.

Nova Productions' appeal against High Court judgment in favour of BFG and Mazooma is dismissed.
The appeal by Nova Productions against the judgment handed down in the High Court by the Honourable Mr Justice Kitchen last January has been dismissed by the Court of Appeal. The Court also ordered that Nova should pay costs of the Appeal in addition to those of the trial, and refused Nova leave to appeal to the House of Lords.
During the trial, which ran for 12 days in November 2005 at the Royal Courts of Justice, Nova claimed copyright infringement of their “Pocket Money” SWP game by BFG in its “Trick Shot” AWP, and Mazooma in its “Jackpot Pool” SWP supplied to Gamestec and IBN for use on the Gamestec and ITBox terminals. In a tightly written judgment of the trial, Justice Kitchen concluded : “For all the reasons I have given I conclude that both actions fail.”
In dismissing Nova’s claim, the Court of Appeal held that “it is very important that copyright is not allowed to intervene to stifle the creation of works that are actually very different, as the individual games are here”, they also said that had Nova’s claim been successful “…copyright would become an instrument of oppression rather than an incentive for creation which it is intended to be”.
On behalf of Bell-Fruit, MD John Austin said “Given the strength of the judgment of the trial, we were never in doubt that the appeal would be dismissed and, after a period of almost three years since the initial claims were raised, I will be glad to put it behind us.”
